Teacher as a Mentor

For generations, the focus of the classroom has been on the teacher. Who typically stand in front of the whole class and control her students. She might taught all subjects or a particular subject. She must be taken as a subject expert and she should be perfect in her subject area, because she is the one who can make and break their futureBut with awareness or introduction of computers in the classroom has changed the traditional role of the teacher.
Teacher is not the one who lecturing or directing students all the time but she spend most of her time in guiding, assisting, and  counciling her students. To role of a teacher become more wider than before. Teacher need to be more open, bcoz education didnot remain limited to our classroom. Teacher should always make new efforts, so that our students become able to think beyond the obvious and try to make personal connection with topic. It will definetly help them to develop their high level of thinking. Technology can help alot in such direction. After taking my ICT course now I realised how Journal writing, bolgging helps us to broaden our thinking. It is a great way to make our students more creative and engage them with their learning.
Now we are creating our own websites, where I can learn how a teacher can influence her students and parents outside the classroom too. Teaching is my passion and I want to learn more and more, to make my teaching engaging and effective.

Blocking or Filtering the Internet at School

Last week we talked about five polls in the classroom. we are supposed to talk about one of these topic. our group choose "Should School Block or Filter their internet?"

Before starting the discussion I was very sure about my views on 'yes' to some extent school should filter their internet, because our midddle years students are not very mature enough to decide what is good or bad for them. They are full of curiosity and exictement to use new ideas and as a teacher or parent it is the duty of their to decide what is better for them. And for this purpose filteration is necessary to some extent. I was one of the parents who stop their kids to go on such websites, which are not age appropriate for their kids. But such things may lead our kids to show  more interest in these websites, and they want to try them more eagerly.

After discussing such topic in our group, I realise that we should provide them knowledge about these things and let them aware about the pros and cons of such websites and why they should not go for them. A teacher should make some rules before doing any activity. It will help our students to know that what they are expexted to do in the classroom and how they can get better achievemnts.

Parents should also encourage their kids to work on new technology, but they need to be very careful with it. They should spend some time with them when they are working online to support them as well as supervise them in a positive sense. It will definetly raise our kids confidence level and also develop better relationship with parents. Then there will be least chance of our kids to go in a wrong direction.
Now i am totally convinced that allowing our kids to use more and more new technology with the support of their parents and teacher will make a big difference in their life. It will improve their overall personality as a life long learner and a better citizen to take right decision, first with the help of their teachers and parents, and then by themselves.

Now at the I would come into a conclusion that school should not filter their internet. We should trust our kids and give them some responsibility to show their capabilities to explore the world.
